Frequently asked questions about the auction

Wednesday the 24th September, 2014

We are fast approaching our auction when all 51 of our BookBenches will be sold to raise money for the National Literacy Trust.

The most frequently asked question is whether we are setting reserve prices and how much do we expect the benches to sell for.

We are not setting any reserve prices and it is difficult to estimate what each bench will go for. It depends on the popularity of the individual piece and also who else is bidding for it.

Our event partner, Wild in Art, has run similar auctions across the UK e.g. giraffes, Olympic mascots, Wallace and Gromits, which helps to provide estimate price range for our benches. These sculptures have fetched anywhere from £2k to £50k plus per sculpture at auction.

All funds raised from the auction will go towards the vital work the National Literacy Trust does, helping disadvantaged children and adults in the UK achieve the literacy levels they need to be successful in life.

You can register to bid online, or bid in groups. For all the information about our auction, click here.

The auction will be held at the Southbank Centre, tickets are £25 and can be bought from the Southbank Centre box office here.
